► Sentimental Hillary Clinton reads the “victory speech” she could never have given: “Your daughter will be President of the United States”

The Democrat ran for president in 2016 in the US presidential election, and at the end of the race also received about 3 million more votes than the opposition candidate Donald Trump. But the Republican won electoral votes in some crucial states and eventually became the 45th president of the United States.

“In this lesson, I experience one of my most public defeats ever, sharing the speech I wish I had given if I had won the 2016 election,” Clinton said in a video for online learning platform MasterClass. The lesson is part of her new talk on “The Power of Resilience” and was also shared on the American talk show TODAY.

The former presidential candidate admits to her viewers that she did not share the speech with anyone and did not read it out loud. “But it defines who I am,” she says, “what I believe in, and what my hopes are for the kind of country I want for my grandchildren, and what I want for the world.”

In the speech, Clinton mentioned how important the election is to the country, and she looks forward to the polarization that eventual winner Donald Trump will embrace. “This election has challenged us to decide what it means to be an American in the twenty-first century. By striving for unity, decency and what President Lincoln called “our nature’s best angels,” we have risen to that challenge.”

I also thought about what it meant to be elected as the first female president of the United States. I’ve met women who were born before women had the right to vote. They have waited for tonight a hundred years. I met young boys and girls who didn’t understand why a woman had never been president. Now they, and the world, know that in America any boy and girl can grow up to be anything they dream of–even the President of the United States.”

Clinton, 74, had a lump in her throat when she read a passage about her mother, who died in 2011. “I dream of going to her, sitting next to her, holding her in my arms and saying, ‘Look at me. Listen to me. She will survive.'” You will have a good family of your own. And three sons. And as hard as it is to imagine, your daughter will grow up and become President of the United States.”

In MasterClass, Clinton also talks about combating stereotypes and gender discrimination, as well as honing her negotiation and organizational skills.
