Apple renews AirPods: shorter stems, longer battery life

The new AirPods look more like AirPods Prowhich came out at the end of 2019. The new earbuds have shorter stems, but unlike the AirPods Pro, they are not in the ear. The new AirPods don’t have active noise cancellation like the AirPods Pro, but they do offer new audio features.

The original AirPods have a total battery life of 24 hours including the charging box, and it lasted a maximum of 5 hours out of this box. With the new AirPods, you get 6 hours out of the box and a total of 30 hours including the charging box.

The new AirPods support the functions already in AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.

The Find My feature on Apple devices makes it easy for users to locate their AirPods. It shows not only the last location but also the current location on the map, even if the user is out of range. If the user is within range, the distance to the AirPods can be accurately displayed, so users can find earplugs, for example, in a drawer or between sofa cushions.

For the first time, regular AirPods now come standard with a wireless charging case. Previously, Apple charged additional fees for this.

New AirPods cost €199 in the Netherlands. It can be ordered from today and will be delivered from next week. The previous generation AirPods will also still be available for 149 euros.
