Breast Cancer Contest Kicks Off Breast Cancer Month

October is Breast Cancer Prevention Month. In the context of the health municipalities of Pajotland and because prevention is important, the inter-municipal health prevention service in Pajotland organizes a breast cancer test.

Breast cancer, or mammary cancer, is a form of cancer that arises from the mammary tissue in the breast. It is the most common cancer in women: 22% of all cancers in women. It affects approximately one million women worldwide each year. Since men also have a small amount of mammary gland tissue, it is possible for them to develop breast cancer, too, although this is less common. The risk of developing breast cancer in men is about 1 in 100,000 per year. Over a lifetime, this rate is approximately 1:1000, which is about 100 times less common than in women.

The earlier the disease is detected, the better the prognosis.

Since women, whether women’s cancers or breast cancer, suffer from sexual problems (about 50%), it is important to discuss this topic.

On Friday, September 4, 2024, the Inter-Municipal Health Prevention Service in Pajottenland will organize a breast cancer test in the Plosje 10 meeting room in Bever as a team (team of 4 people).

Bianca Vanrebingen: “In Bågottenland we have a big heart for breast cancer patients and that’s why there will also be a certificate about this disease from the beginning in the breast cancer test.”

sharing: For each team there is 10 euros on account number. BE39 0910 0013 4819 with the mention “Test”.

Teams are asked to come up with a team name on the topic.
