Eureka! These activities take place in Enschede during the Science Weekend.

Take the chairlift at De Klanderij or cycle through Enschede on your e-bike. This wouldn’t be possible without science. During the Science Weekend on October 5th and 6th, you can take a look at De Museumfabriek and Saxion and ask the question “How does it work?” centrally.

Universities, colleges, museums, hospitals and research institutions are open throughout the Netherlands. Visitors are then allowed to visit places that are not normally visible to the public. Most activities are free.

Science Weekend in Enschede

Anyone interested in the world of science is in the right place in Enschede on October 5th and 6th. During that weekend you can go whale hunting in Twente. Yes, really. Did you know that whales used to swim in Twente? When the Twente Canal was dug almost a century ago, whale bones came to light. Boxes full of prehistoric whale bones ended up in a collection Museum Factory.

Now it’s time to take them out and give them a special treat so they stay in good condition. During the science weekend you can see this special conservation process first hand and learn all about it. The museum staff will also talk about the history of whales in Enschede. This event will take place on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October from 12:00 pm to 16:30 pm in De Museumfabriek and is free of charge.

Workshops and experiences

On Saturday, October 5, you can go between 11am and 4pm. Saxion Technology Day. Immerse yourself in a world full of innovation and discover cool tech activities. Learn how technology continues to innovate and improve our world. There will be many workshops, experiments and stories that afternoon. Consider building a Lego robot, creating a secret code or trying out a virtual reality experience. The activities take place at Saxion at MH Tromplaan 28 and admission is free.
