Farmers win lawsuit over high voltage line: French energy giant forced to pay more than 450,000 euros in compensation | Abroad

RTE, a subsidiary of the French electric company EDF, has been ordered to pay more than 450 thousand euros to French dairy farmers. Their production was damaged by the company’s high voltage line.

Two farmers from Manchey, in western France, have been dealing with problems with their livestock for several years, the source of which has not been officially identified. There was a suspicion of an effect of the electrical interaction on the high-voltage power line of the RTE, which was located nearby.

To assess the possible effects, the line was closed for some time in 2012. When the animals were examined, it was then found that their health had significantly improved, so that milking could be resumed without any problems.

The farm was eventually moved in 2014, but the case nevertheless went to court. “This is an important decision because it makes farmers in the same situation hope for favorable decisions,” said the farmers’ lawyer.

RTE has taken note of the ruling and can still appeal the decision.
