French TV is now showing all of Morocco, including the Sahara.

France 24, the French news channel affiliated with the French Foreign Ministry, has modified its cartographic representation of Morocco. The southern provinces, previously omitted, are now included in the map of the Kingdom, including the Sahara.

This change comes after the clarification of the French position on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara. Although the line that defines the buffer zone where MINURSO forces are stationed remains in place, it is now part of an area recognized as an integral part of Morocco.

Even before the French channel, several school textbooks decided to include a map of Morocco with the Sahara desert. Other institutions are expected to follow suit in the coming weeks.

In a letter to King Mohammed VI recognizing Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara, the French president wrote: “France will, in particular, continue to clearly and strongly consolidate the sincerity of its friendship with Morocco and the effectiveness of its partnership with this country.” The French position on the issues that are most important to Your Majesty and to Moroccans, and in this regard, I believe that the present and future of Western Sahara lie within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty. The French position on this issue related to the national security of your Kingdom, France intends to act in accordance with this position, at the national and international levels. Autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is for France the framework within which this issue should be resolved. The autonomy plan proposed by Morocco in 2007 is clear and consistent.
