Halo Infinite unranked modes affect matchmaking for ranked playlists

employment reddit Halo Infinite players showed in a post that they were able to figure out the matchmaking order (MMR). MMR is usually hidden by developer 343 Industries – players can only see their rank between “Bronze” and “Onyx” – but players were able to tell the numbers through the Free For All game mode.

The data that can be seen when playing a pattern with teams is based on the averages of those teams, but this does not apply to Free For All. After all, in this mode, each player is seen as his own “team”, so the data in this mode provides a view of the MMR for individual players. “This is the only way now that we can find out these values (MMR) because we don’t think 343 Industries want people to see these numbers,” the Reddit post read.

According to the post, the values point to a core issue with Halo Infinite. Playing well in unranked modes with bots increases MMR, making novice players after a few practice matches in ranked modes against opponents better than if they immediately played in ranked modes.

The opposite also appears to be true: players can keep their MMR from getting too high by purposely underestimating performance in unranked playlists. Then they play in arranged positions against “easier” opponents. The Reddit post reads: “If we don’t look at this core component, we fear that the integrity of our competitive and ranked playlists will be compromised.” “Casual players interested in ranking will be quickly removed from this experience.”

The MMR approach isn’t perfect because the data only comes from Free For All, and Halo Infinite certainly doesn’t calculate MMR the same way in team modes. 343 Industries has not responded yet.
