Heavy gas explosion in central Madrid: at least 3 dead

A heavy gas explosion occurred in an apartment building in central Madrid on Wednesday. At least three dead have been recovered and many of the wounded have been taken to hospitals.

A loud explosion began in the Calle de Toledo, in the heart of Madrid, around 3 pm on Wednesday. On. The attack was immediately contemplated. The environment was closed.

The facade of the apartment was badly damaged and rubble blew away. Government representative Jose Manuel Franco has now confirmed that at least three people have been killed and one missing. At least eight people were wounded, one of them in critical condition.

Neighbors say they smelled gas in the area hours before the explosion. This was confirmed by Madrid Mayor Jose Luis Martinez Almeida.

There is a restroom near the damaged building. Residents have been evacuated to a nearby hotel as a precaution. No elderly care home resident will be infected.
