The UK government aims to achieve zero emissions by 2050. A week before the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, Prime Minister Johnson presented a 368-page document full of long-term promises to make the UK a leader in the transition to a green economy.
Boris Johnson spoke at a meeting with investors and multinationals about a “green industrial revolution, driven by new freedoms thanks to Brexit”. To achieve zero emissions by 2050, Johnson wants to focus on electric cars and giga factories to produce batteries, water and solar power.
In addition, the government also wants British households involved in the plans, by making £5,000 available to British citizens who want to replace their gas boiler with a heat pump. In this way, Johnson wants to ensure that no new gas boilers will be installed by 2035.
Johnson also announced deals worth £9.7 billion in foreign investment, which will create at least 30,000 jobs.
The announcement comes just over a week before the COP26 climate conference to be held in Glasgow.
