The wolf that was killed in the Netherlands at the beginning of this month was carrying eight cubs. This emerged from an internal examination of the corpse.
The wolf itself was a herd cub in Noord-Veluwe, a forested area in Gelderland County. The first pair of wolf settled in the Netherlands there in 2019.
The wolf wandered from its flock to the southwest of the Veluwe. In December last year, a man from Germany joined her.
According to the site manager, camera traps in their area showed the wolf pair was nesting in early spring.
Perhaps the wolf was a fugitive from people wandering around its inaccessible rest area. The animal was killed by a car on a busy road near Eddy, in central Netherlands.
