Profile Path 1: In an internship!

The Communication Sciences program offers you the opportunity to undertake an internship during your Master’s year during the second semester. This internship opportunity is available for all four majors. It is important to note that you can take a maximum of 12 credits from an undergraduate or bridging program if it falls in the first semester. The department is obligated to supervise internships during the syllabus, so that requests for so-called “voluntary internships” cannot be followed up.
The duration of the internship is 7-9 weeks and includes a minimum of 250 hours and a maximum of 280 hours. You will be evaluated based on a training report and an academic essay, while the training provider’s evaluation will also be included in the final score for a 25% stake.

Profile Track 2: Social Engagement and Sustainability

Are you socially involved and want to apply your knowledge of communication sciences in practice? In the Profiling Course on Social Participation and Sustainability, you can combine the courses “Thinking about Sustainability” and “Learning to Serve Community: Citizenship in a Digital Society”. In this year’s cycle, you are working closely with an organization to develop a communication intervention. For example, would you like to think with Mediawijs.be on children’s rights in a digital context? Are you helping the further expansion of Medinet.tv? Are you working with Gezond+ on a healthy calendar or with BeVegan developing a campaign to promote vegetarianism? You can also start at City of Ghent (Department of Environment and Climate), De Lochting and Woonzorgcollectief. After preparing and thoroughly analyzing the situation in the first semester, you can work in the same organization in the second semester to work on a concrete intervention.
What is the difference with training?
In the process, you work in pairs on a solution to a social problem, in cooperation with an organization. You will use your academic knowledge and skills to make a positive impact and integrate social engagement. You just don’t work Before organization, but together or together With the organization to find a solution. It is precisely this unique interaction between practical knowledge and academic knowledge that can provide innovative solutions. Personal growth and reflection are very important here. You will work effectively in the organization, but you will work on one concrete project. Profile Track 3: Choosing an International Experience

Looking for a foreign experience? The Communication Sciences program offers you the opportunity to spend part of your studies at a European or non-European partner university. This is possible in 3e BA as in MSc. The international experience allows you to absorb new cultures, hone your language skills and make lifelong friends. For many students, an international exchange is one of the highlights of their academic education.

Profile Path 4: Theoretical deepening

While the compulsory subjects for your major allow you to broaden and deepen your knowledge and expertise from a specific field, the fourth profiling track allows you to broaden your horizon a bit by choosing from an extensive list of courses. These courses are selected based on major and offer you a look at a related major or additional major. Keep in mind that many of these courses are offered by other courses, such as, for example, “Markets and Prices”, “Programming” and “Informatics”. So carefully read the study papers for these courses for a proper appreciation of the required prior knowledge or competencies.
