Protest and tensions during William and Kate’s Caribbean tour

no excuses

No apology from the royal family. Prince William chose to mention slavery’s past in a speech. “I completely agree with my father, Prince Charles, who said last year in Barbados that the horrific cruelty of slavery forever pollutes our history. I am deeply sorry for that. Slavery was horrible and should not happen.”

When William and Kate visit Prime Minister Andrew Holness, he touches on the protests. He says he is happy to receive them, but also mentions that feelings of people in Jamaica can run high about the visit. “Your presence is an opportunity to see these things in context, focus on them, and address them.” The Duke and Duchess nodded without going into further details.

William and Kate wrote in social media that they look back at the visit with enthusiasm: “In our short time here in Jamaica, Catherine and I are thrilled to experience what Bob Marley described years ago: the feeling of ‘one love’ that Jamaica brings to Jamaica. The world and what makes The country is so special.” William said of the neighborhood where Bob Marley lived: “We heard this ourselves during our visit to Trench Town, where reggae was born. “Once you start playing Rasta drums, you really know how to have a good time.”
