Films that were shown in cinemas shortly before the closure were poor
The streaming service Pathé Thuis will be releasing a number of new films early on the platform next week. Film titles like Casanova, Honest Thief, and After We Collided. The streaming service is currently in talks with several studios to expand the offer further.

Live streaming service Pathé Thuis is jumping into the divide that has arisen now that cinemas have suddenly been forced to close their doors, by releasing movies that have just been shown in theaters as video on demand (vod). There is usually a so-called “window” for a few weeks to months before the film is shown on a piece of cloth. Yesterday the service actually released the flagship movie Tenet on a rag.
Pathé Thuis is in talks with studios and distributors to ensure that the Netherlands, now closed to cinemas, still has access to a wide range of new films. Starting next week, Casanova, the honest thief, after we collide, the Bigfoot family, Fatman, Bob’s Christmas gift, Mr. Very Excellent. Dundee, Jackie, Oopjen, and The Dark and the Wicked are available for rent on the platform.

“We think it’s important, especially at this time when we’re at home with each other, that we have the widest selection of films to choose from,” says Thomas Van de Weerd, director and co-owner of Pathé Thuis. “This also means the latest movies, which we’re sorry. Because the Dutch no longer have the opportunity to watch it on the big screen. Nevertheless, we want to continue to give films the attention they deserve, and give movie fans access to the latest shows, especially during this period.
Other suppliers
In addition to Pathé Thuis, there are other providers of films recently shown in the cinema: for example, Cinemas work with Picl, who provide films about cinemas as video on demand at the same time as movie theaters. Disney + is currently releasing all movie titles at once in the cinema and as a rag, think related companies like Marvel and Pixar in addition to Disney.

What makes the Pathé Thuis group unique is that it has a much wider scope than other providers.
The streaming service already had over 2,500 movies in their catalog from all the major movie studios including Disney, Warner Brothers, Universal Pictures, Sony, and Paramount Pictures. In recent months, the service has also been busy adding ancient classics to their worship. Service users pay for the rented or purchased film (on demand as per request).
