The government that will dismantle the nuclear reactor today? “Yes” First “No” First “May”

In short the Nuclear Exit Act

  • 2003: The law states that all reactors must be shut down by the age of 40. I.e. will be phased out between 2015 and 2025.
  • 2009: Political agreement states that the three old reactors should be open longer than 2015. With the fall of the government, this will not become law.
  • 2013: The law extends the operation of a reactor until 2025.
  • The other two reactors, which were scheduled to remain open in 2009, will have to be shut down anyway.
  • 2015: Law is being amended again: The other two nuclear reactors will remain open for a long time. The deadline for closing the last reactors is 2025
  • 2022: Will the 2025 deadline be converted to two reactors for the first time? Until 2035? Until 2045? Will the ban on new nuclear power plants be lifted from the law? Or does the 2003 law still apply?

The decision to close our nuclear power plants by 2025 was made in 2003 under the purple-green Verhofstad government. The text stated that our reactors would be shut down 40 years after they were commissioned. The younger reactors, Doyle 4 and Thihangke 3, date from 1985. Forty more years brings us to 2025. So that year is usually the year of the expulsion of our solid nuclear power plant.
