Watching movies together from a distance: Disney launched…

The Disney+ streaming service comes with a new feature. With GroupWatch, you as a subscriber can watch movies and series with friends and family, even when you’re not together. The new feature will allow up to seven people to watch Disney + simultaneously across web browsers, mobile devices and smart TVs, as well as share live feedback with each other.

“Stories come to life when you can share them with others and enjoy them together,” said Gerel B. Jimerson of Disney+. And in today’s era where many are still separated from friends and family, GroupWatch provides a way to connect in a safe and virtual way by watching your favorite stories with your favorite people in the comfort of your living room.

Subscribers can use the feature by clicking on the GroupWatch icon on the show or movie details page.

Then they receive a link where they can invite up to six other people to watch it together. Invitations must be sent from a mobile device or web browser, but the series or movie can also be watched from a smart TV.

Simultaneous playback gives each participant the option to pause for a toilet break, rewind to re-watch a favorite scene, or fast forward the entire group. While watching, viewers can also respond in real time with six different emojis via the Disney+ app.

At the beginning of the pandemic, when everyone had to stay in their room, Netflix Party also became popular. However, this extension did not come from the streaming service itself.
