West criticizes that Putin thanks the Russians for their confidence in the elections

According to the Election Commission, almost all votes have been counted. And again, United Russia, the party that supported Putin, is again the largest, but it is also losing ground. The party received nearly 50 percent of the vote, compared to more than 54 percent in the previous election. The Communist Party got 19 percent. With this result, Putin has the support of more than two-thirds of parliament members and constitutional changes can easily be made.

Opponents and opposition parties accuse the authorities of widespread electoral fraud. Previously, the monitoring organization Golos reported that thousands of irregularities were recorded: from groups of officials mobilized to vote to a ballot box with a hidden back door.

The West is also crucial. For example, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States say the elections were not free. The British Foreign Office announces that democracy in Russia is taking a step backwards. Borrell, the European Union’s foreign affairs chief, said the rules had been violated and the elections suffered from intimidation and the absence of observers.

This evening, demonstrations against the election results took place in Moscow.
