Class action against Facebook is on the way

Facebook will have to deal with a collective claim in the UK that could amount to more than 2.3 billion pounds (2.8 billion euros). Lawyer Lisa Lovedal Gorsen is suing the group on behalf of all Britons who used Facebook between 2015 and 2019. After that, they had to agree to unfair terms of use that forced them to transfer personal data to the social media platform, Lovedal Gorsen says. She believes Facebook has abused its power.

Lovdahl Gormsen files an opt-out class action, a claim on behalf of a pre-selected group that automatically joins the case unless someone says they don’t want to. A special body for competition cases, the Competition Appeal Court, hears the case.

According to the lawyer, Facebook made a lot of money thanks to all the data about its users collected through the social media platform and features like Facebook Pixel, which tracks many people’s browsing behavior for personalized ads.

Facebook claims that its services became popular because they were so valuable to British consumers. In addition, platform users were able to control what information they wanted to share with the platforms and with whom.
