Russia will withdraw from the International Space Station (ISS) after 2024. Roscosmos chief Yuri Borisov confirmed this on Tuesday after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Without a doubt, we will fulfill all our obligations to our partners in the International Space Station, but the decision to leave this station after 2024 is a firm one,” said the head of the Russian space program. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the decision was taken “much earlier.” However, NASA says it has not yet been officially notified.
In addition, Borisov also said that Russia will focus on creating the ROSS Manned Space Station, or the Russian Orbital Service Station. “We will continue the pilot program according to the approved plans,” she said.
The (Russian) core module of the International Space Station was launched in 1998. The Space Volcano is a partnership between the United States, Russia, the European Space Agency (ESA) (with Belgium as a partner), Canada and Japan.
