French railway company SNCF reported that a fire that broke out on Saturday noon south of Valence, near the high-speed line connecting Lyon to the Mediterranean, disrupted TGV traffic, with a delay of up to three hours.
“The TGVs were immediately diverted to the previous line, causing a delay of 45 to 60 minutes, but the three trains already on the line would be two to three hours late,” a spokesperson said.
The fire service said that the fire, which broke out in a car park along the A7 motorway in the town of Allen in the Drôme county, was put out after blazing 3 hectares.
SNCF is expecting one million passengers on TGV and Intercity trains this weekend, one of the busiest times of the year.
