Germany has traditionally been a land of speed demons, as you haven’t encountered top speeds on certain sections of the Autobahn for years. Germany may face ‘competition’ from the United Kingdom in this area. Liz Truss, one of two successors to outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson, wants to take it seriously.
This week saw a final debate between Truss and fellow Conservative leadership candidate Rishi Sunak. Truss was asked about the possibility of making a dash at top speed. According to her, this is not excluded: “As for the maximum speed, I am ready to see it. I cannot give a more precise answer,” she said. Auto Express On that day. The Truss previously suggested raising the UK speed limit to 80 miles per hour, almost 130 km/h.
The Truss, however, wants to see an end to ‘smart motorways’, which can, for example, open and close rush hour lanes or set other maximum speeds to prevent congestion, via matrix signs. A comparison can be made here in the Netherlands. Truss is leading the polls next Monday, September 5, when the Conservatives will decide who will succeed Johnson.
