FIFA signs e-sports agreement with Konami

After EA declined to renew its FIFA license in 2022, the publisher continued its soccer series under the name EA Sports FC. The FA had to look for a worthy replacement and now they may have found it in Konami. At least for the eSports part.

As you know, Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer series was the competitor to FIFA games at the time. It’s no wonder that FIFA has now signed an eSports deal with Konami for the FIFA World Cup. For example, Konami announced that its eFootball game will host two different versions of the FIFA World Cup: one for mobile and one for consoles.

Of course, note that the deal between Konami and FIFA only applies to eSports. Therefore, not for a new football game titled FIFA from Konami. However, FIFA may want to test the publisher’s eFootball platform with this move. Which could open the door to future FIFA projects at the publisher.

Nominations for the FIFA World Cup run from October 28 to November 2. Details can be found at Konami websiteUnfortunately, Belgian players are not allowed to participate. Maybe our strict rules against loot boxes in games have something to do with this.

Does FIFA have any other publishers considering continuing the FIFA digital brand? This is unknown at present.
