Review: Life is Strange: Double Exposure

About two weeks ago we were able to give you a brief preview Life is Strange: Double Exposure Based on the first two episodes. Soon after, we were lucky enough to be able to get started with the full game and now we can share our full final verdict with you. Can Deck Nine clear the doubts from the preview?

For those who haven’t read the preview, we’ll briefly explain the story without giving any spoilers that you haven’t yet been able to read in the preview. Years after the events of Arcadia Bay, we return to Max Caulfield. She now studies at Caledon University and has lost her powers that allowed her to travel back in time. Naturally, those tragic events left their mark. However, Max got her affairs in order, until one of her friends was shot dead. No one knows who the culprit is, but Max is determined to find out. The event also brings back her supernatural powers, though this time she can’t travel through time with them. What it suddenly turns out she is capable of is traveling to another dimension, where her friend Safi is still alive!

The first two episodes of Life is Strange: Double Exposure The film mainly revolves around Safi being killed and Max discovering that she has new powers and where she can use them. You will also learn about the characters who will play an important role in the story. Accordingly, we were still cautiously enthusiastic about the preview. Fortunately, this caution turns out to be unfounded, because from episode three onwards the mystery fully rages on and doesn’t leave us until we see the final credits. Without wanting to go into further detail, the events become increasingly crazy and it seems that the two dimensions in which Max could find himself are more connected to each other than he originally thought. In that regard, it absolutely strikes the chords that still make the first game the highlight of the series for us. With all due respect to everyone who came after Max and Chloe, the heirs no longer reach the level and complexity of the story. until Double exposure from!

Graphically too, it seems to have been there ever since True colours I took some steps again. This is especially noticeable in the lighting and facial expressions of the characters. This makes it Double exposure Absolutely beautiful game. In addition, the atmosphere is also very good. It’s winter when the events take place, which means everything around Caledon is covered in a thick layer of snow. Combined with the old castle-like school and other cozy locations, this ensures that it is an environment you will love to wander through and stop every once in a while to take it all in.

What remains is somewhat wooden acting at times. The tone of the voices does not always match the situation, which sometimes reduces the impact of the scene. Think about suddenly becoming very cheerful after a sad situation and things like that. On the other hand, he lost Life is strange I’ve always had this and it may be part of the atmosphere that gaming brings. It’s dramatic, but it’s also light-hearted and not too sad. Max is also a great character with her nerdy sense of humor and her own ideas at times. The rest of the heroes are also interesting and have their own deeper layer that explains why they are the way they are.

This probably won’t be a game for people who like to rack their brains with puzzles. This is one criticism we have: Deck Nine often tells you what to do: “Travel to this dimension and talk to that character” followed by: “Travel to the other dimension and talk again to this person about what you just discovered.” You’ll never have to think about the next step. The most important element of gameplay is actually the choices you make during conversations. It was done well. You never know exactly what the outcome of what you say will be, but if something eye-catching happens, you always know how to go back to something you chose previously. You also sometimes regret some actions after you get to know the characters better later in the game. It definitely guarantees you that Double exposure You want to play a few times to see what can be done differently.

However, it’s worth it if you occasionally ignore Deck Nine’s orders and just wander around. You can use Max’s powers in two ways. The first is that you can peek into the other dimension and thus eavesdrop without seeing it. Here you can also learn more about the story and the characters in it. This way you will find pieces of the puzzle that you might have otherwise missed. There are also some side stories revealed this way. The other way you can use Max’s powers is to travel to the other dimension, which will reveal other things to you about where you are at that moment. We didn’t do it enough in the gameplay, but we definitely plan to play again and take more time.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure In our opinion, it is a very successful game. Refreshing my knowledge of Max is very good and the story with different dimensions is very interesting as well. It might start out a little slow, but what comes next is truly amazing! We liked to think a little more for ourselves sometimes.

We played Life is Strange: Double Exposure on PlayStation 5. The game is also available for Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
