Baldur’s Gate director blames Ubisoft for failure of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Ubisoft can count on a lot of criticism these days. It was recently announced that the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown would not be working on a sequel because the game did not sell well enough. Baldur’s Gate 3 director Michael Doss puts the blame on Ubisoft’s management.

According to the director, things went completely wrong with the release strategy. “The last major game on their platform was Far Cry 6 in 2021,” he said, referring to the Ubisoft Store where The Lost Crown was released. “The Crew, Mirage, and Avatar came in 2023 and didn’t do well.”

According to Douse, the latter proves that PC gamers have little appetite for the Ubisoft Store. According to him, a release on Steam would have been a better solution. “Then not only would it have been a success, but there would have been a follow-up, because the team is so strong. It’s a failed strategy.”

Harsh words from Scouse and it doesn’t stop there as journalist Tom Henderson comments on

Not releasing it on Steam and having very high expectations, is not a very good recipe. All the balls in the new version of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time then…
