Little time to exercise? Two days is enough.

Are you unable to exercise during the week and only have time on the weekends? That’s a good thing, according to new research. “Weekend warriors” enjoy the same health benefits of exercise as those who exercise regularly during the week.

The study concluded that the most important thing is to exercise.

To exercise

A Research team from China The researchers analyzed data from more than 75,000 people from the UK Biobank. They divided the people into three groups: inactive (people who did not meet the recommended 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week), regularly active (people who met the guidelines and had their activity spread out over the week) and weekend warriors (people who met the guidelines by spreading more than 50 percent of their activity over one or two days).

The study found that compared with a group of inactive adults, weekend warriors were 26% less likely to develop dementia, 21% less likely to have a stroke, and 45% less likely to develop Parkinson’s disease. All of these numbers were comparable to a group of people who were regularly active, but during the week.

Health benefits

The researchers concluded that as long as people do most of their physical activity on one or two days of the week, they enjoy similar health benefits to people who exercise on several days.

In one Previous researchAlso using UK Biobank data, the researchers similarly found that people who did most of their exercise on one or two days enjoyed similar heart health benefits as those whose physical activity was spread more evenly over a split week.
