19-year-old son, best friend of Dutch King Willem-Alexander, has died

The Dutch royal family published this weekend in the newspaper Norwegian Refugee Council An obituary for Jan de Beaufort. This is the nineteen-year-old son of Frans de Beaufort, one of the best friends of King Willem-Alexander. He died on May 9.

“It wouldn’t be the same without you. We will miss you incredibly. Our hearts are with your sweet, warm, happy family. Know that we will always be there for them,” reads the announcement signed by “Alexander,” Maxima, Amalia, Alexia, and Ariane. The names Mark Ter Haar and Tejo Baron Culotte Discouri, among others, are also below the ad. They and Frans de Beaufort were witnesses to the wedding of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima.

King Willem-Alexander and Frans de Beaufort have been friends for years. Corneille Seeking, France’s mother, was Princess Beatrix’s nanny at Soestdijk Palace. In 1997, Willem-Alexander was the master of ceremonies at the wedding of France and his wife, Suzanne. Beaufort is the godfather of Princess Alexia.
