WhatsApp launches macOS app – ITdaily.

WhatsApp now has its own app for macOS. It supports group chats and drag-and-drop functionality in the operating system.

macOS users have been waiting for this for a long time, but now the new WhatsApp for Mac is finally here. At the moment, the app can only be accessed directly via website It can be downloaded from the WhatsApp app, but will also soon be available via the App Store for macOS. The Windows desktop version has been around since the end of 2021 and got a real makeover in March.

macOS will take over most of the features of the updated Windows app, like group video calls and end-to-end encryption of conversations. Via the desktop apps, you can have a video call with eight people, and for voice calls, the limit is 32 participants. The cross-platform experience just got a lot better with the addition of the Mac app, gradually making WhatsApp a formidable competitor to Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

But there are also great macOS perks. WhatsApp says that the app has been completely redesigned to take full advantage of the capabilities of the operating system. For example, WhatsApp on macOS also supports drag and drop functionality to easily add attachments to your messages.

There are some technical conditions. For example, your device must be running at least macOS 11 Big Sur and the WhatsApp client will only work if you have a Mac or Macbook with an Apple M chip, there is no difference between 1st or 2nd generation. If you have an older model with an Intel chip, you will still have to rely on the web version to use WhatsApp on Mac.
