App Uniek Sporten Thuis lowers the bar for athletes with disabilities

Over 4000 exercises and exercise videos

When developing the app, the Disabled Sports Fund and the Müller Institute conducted research into the barriers and needs of people with disabilities in participating in sports and exercise. This showed that being able to exercise at your own pace, not having to travel and feeling fit is an advantage for athletes with disabilities. With this positive experience, the step can then be taken towards a fitness club or association once and for all, which is the ultimate goal of the Uniek Sporten platform. With over 4,000 exercises, specific training and nutrition programmes and relaxation exercises, the app ensures that people with disabilities can also keep fit from home. The community function, which facilitates communication, ensures that the likelihood of loneliness is reduced.

Nike Bohr, Director of the Disabled Sports Fund: “When you exercise at home, you can be yourself. You are not distracted by others and you can fully concentrate on your progress. Unique sport at home is a positive incentive for many people with disabilities who do not exercise because they cannot exercise. In addition, Uniek Sporten at home makes you fitter and also gives you the opportunity to learn more about Uniek Sporten.
