This is evidenced by new research conducted by a sports brand Nutrition XXL. More than half of the 1,100 participating women indicated that they felt monitored or unsafe at the gym. 67% find this annoying.
men
Men are less bothered about appearance at the gym: 37 percent. Of these, 29% find the appearance annoying. This means that one in ten men has difficulty with this, compared to about four in ten women.

There's also good news: Women generally don't let men's looks stop them at the gym. However, they often take measures in the hope of attracting less attention, for example by wearing hidden clothing, skipping exercise and/or exercising in a protected place. The study found that one in eight women avoid going to the gym completely.
Women who don't feel comfortable in gyms also collectively cite another solution: a “ladies-only” gym. Unfortunately, there are few such gyms in the Netherlands. Therefore, exercising with a personal trainer is also a good alternative for many women.
