Adobe is bringing 2D vector graphics to life with a new 3D tool

Adobe is previewing a new experimental tool, Project Turntable, that allows artists to easily put 2D vector graphics into a different perspective.

At the Adobe Max event, Adobe announces new graphic tools that are currently still in beta. One of these tools is Turntable projectwhich allows artists to easily randomly rotate their 2D vector drawing into 3D, resulting in a new 2D vector image from a different view. This saves artists a lot of time. Adobe showed off a sneak peek of the project, as well as some other new tools.

Project Turntable is a new experimental technology from Adobe. This tool allows creators to display their vector graphics in different viewing perspective based on a simple slider. In this one video Research scientist Zhiqin Chen at Adobe explains how this works.

“This technology allows artists to randomly rotate a 2D vector drawing into 3D, resulting in a 2D vector image displaying the object from the new view,” Adobe said. This process usually takes much longer, but with this tool it is performed in a very short time.

It’s important to note that Adobe is only providing a preview of this experimental technology. This does not guarantee that the tool will actually run. Many previous features like Photoshop’s Remove tool also started out as experimental tools and have blossomed into powerful tools.
