Apple is rumored to be testing a new external display. The screen gets its own chip and neural engine, to make heavy graphical tasks run more smoothly.
Read on after the announcement.
Pro Display XDR heir on the road
Apple’s Pro Display XDR has been available since the end of 2019, but a successor to it hasn’t been discussed yet. This is now changing. to me 9to5Mac Apple is working on a new external display with the A13 chip and the Neural Engine. The monitor is being developed under the codename “J327”.
Information about the specifications of the monitor is still scarce at the moment. The source reported that the display will be controlled by the A13 Bionic chip. This is the same chip we used earlier in iPhone 11string and en iPhone SE opinion. In addition to the A13 chip, the new external display features the Neural Engine that speeds up machine learning tasks.
While previous rumors suggested that Apple might be working on a cheaper display, this new external display is likely to be a successor to the current Pro Display XDR. This means you have to dig deep into your pockets again for this monitor.
The screen of the future works with your Mac
Shortly after Apple canceled the Thunderbolt Display in 2016, rumors arose about a replacement high-resolution display with an integrated GPU. Although the company actually came up with Pro Display XDR in 2019, this monitor doesn’t have a GPU. It might just be ideas for the monitor Apple is currently working on already on the drawing board at the time.
By placing a separate chip in an external monitor, your Mac no longer has to use all of the internal chip’s resources for heavy tasks. Briefly; Apple will likely combine the power of the display chip with the chip in your Mac. This way, graphics intensive tasks will be performed more smoothly.
