Boris Becker was released, but deported from the UK

Former tennis player Boris Becker has been released after serving seven months of his 2.5-year sentence. This was reported by the British news agency PA. He was deported from the UK and brought home to Germany.

The remaining term of Boris Becker’s prison sentence has expired. But in all likelihood, he will not be able to return to London until the two and a half years of his sentence are up. Baker has lived in London for many years, but he is not a British citizen down the street.

Normally, British law allows for release only after half of the sentence has been served. In Baker’s case, that would be the end of July 2023, but he took advantage of the Special Release and Deportation Program.

The three-time Wimbledon winner was found guilty in London on April 29 of hiding his assets from a trustee in his bankruptcy. Boris Becker was declared bankrupt by a court in 2017. As a result, he had to disclose his assets to the trustees, but according to the court, he left out important parts.

Series on Apple TV +

Exactly one day before the release, Apple TV+ announced that it would launch a two-part series about Becker. The tennis makers have been able to follow the former German tennis player for three years. “I hit rock bottom,” Baker says, eyes red in a short clip recorded at the time of his sentencing. “I will not hide and I will accept my punishment.”

Boris Becker has won six Grand Slam titles in his career, including three titles at Wimbledon. The first time he was barely seventeen years old. Becker was known for his hard serve, which earned him the nickname Boris “Boom Boom”. After his career, Becker was, among other things, the coach of Novak Djokovic for three years.
