Brexit: British rights in the Netherlands, deadline for applying for new residency is approaching

What does this mean?: UK nationals and their family members who legally resided in the Netherlands on 31 December 2020 under the EU Freedom Movement Act, Must apply for new residency status. Failure to apply on time may result in the loss of any rights under the withdrawal agreement.

Deadline to submit application: October 31, 2021

Application Procedure:

The housing project started on 1 February 2020.

Applicants are guided by a user-friendly interface, and in addition to a digital copy of their passport must upload documents proving their status (Employment Agreement for Employees, Chamber of Commerce for Self-Employed, Certificate of Education for Adequate Persons for Livelihood, etc.) . Paper application form is available for those who are unable to apply online. After receiving the application, the applicant will receive the application certificate. Once the applicant receives this document, he or she can make an appointment to record the biometric data. The Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) informs the applicant of this decision, and then the residence document is issued.

UK nationals and their family members can apply for their new residency status until 30 June 2021.

The Dutch government provides a paper application form for those who are unable to submit a digital application. IND provides additional support for UK citizens over 70 years of age.

Since October 2020, IND has invited all UK nationals under this age, and in February 2021, INT sent a postcard and a letter to their home address. This card was personally signed by two special Brexit employees of IND. This card states that these Brexit employees can be contacted if they have any questions or need assistance with their residency application.

The Dutch government estimates that about 45,000 English nationals live in the Netherlands.

As of March 31, 2021, 36,700 UK citizens had applied for a revocation agreement for their new Dutch residence document, which was issued to 36,200.
