British promoter fears that the big clash between Fury and Joshua will fail | Military arts

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn is concerned about the state of boxing in the UK. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, all major British boxing events have been canceled until the end of February. The question is whether sports will return immediately after that.

Hearn has organized numerous events in the UK over the years, for Anthony Joshua and others. This is not currently possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main promoter spoke to BoxingScene.com about the potential consequences of not being able to hold boxing events with an audience in England. Hearn sees his plans for a fight between Joshua and Tyson Fury falling through if boxing is postponed any longer.

“If all the other major sports are allowed to return and boxing is not allowed, things could deteriorate very quickly,” Hearn says. “What we have learned over the past year is that anything can happen at any time. You would hope the infection rate would go down, but we still have four weeks before the premiere.”

Football is still allowed in England and that doesn’t sit well with Hearn. “I know boxing is different from football. But the quality of our bubbles and the testing and isolation of fighters is completely different from football, for example, where you can get tested and go back to your country and then fly to Dubai. I feel we have a very good system, but there is a difference in medical care.” “In our sport compared to other sports, anything is possible, but now I feel like everyone is committed to boxing returning in February.”
