Dutch studio Vertigo Games is working on Metro Awakening for VR headsets

Dutch studio Vertigo Games is working on a new part of the popular Metro series, but for virtual reality headsets. The game will be called Metro Awakening and will be released later this year.

Below you can watch the first trailer for Metro Awakening. This will be a prequel to the Metro games set in the year 2028. The story here relates to the events of the popular game Metro 2033. You play as Serdar, a doctor active in the Moscow city metro tunnels. Serdar searches for his missing wife in Metro Awakening. The story of Metro Awakening is written by Dmitry Glukhovsky, the man responsible for the Metro novels. Like the main Metro games developed by 4A Games, this will be a first-person shooter with survival and horror elements.

Last year, Vertigo Games released the popular virtual reality game Arizona Sunshine 2. It is also a first-person shooter, but here you have to slaughter zombies in a post-apocalyptic world.

These are the main features of Metro Awakening according to Vertigo Games:

  • Immerse yourself in a journey of spiritual awakening in this story of terrifying origins and supernatural origins from author Metro Dmitry Glukhovsky.
  • Experience tense, heart-pounding Metro gameplay in VR for the first time, as condensation obscures your mask, ammo and filters run low, and your torchlight flickers and dies in the dark.
  • Wield an iconic arsenal of hand-crafted weapons, don your gas mask, and venture into the depths of the subway where desperate bandits, mutants, and worse stalk your every step.

Metro Awakening is scheduled to release in 2024 on PlayStation VR 2, Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Steam VR.
