England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland are likely to host the 2028 European Football Championship. Turkey is the only other candidate, but has returned to focus on organizing the 2032 European Championship with Italy.
Turkey expects to be unable to adequately compete with the United Kingdom and Ireland’s joint bid for the 2028 European Championship. Turkey and Italy are jointly the only candidates for the 2032 European Championship.
The 2028 and 2032 European Championships will be officially announced at next Tuesday’s UEFA meeting.
England previously hosted the 1966 World Cup and the 1996 European Championship. The last European Championship to be played across Europe included the semi-finals and final at Wembley in London.
Italy won the last European Championship. Then national coach Roberto Mancini’s side proved too strong for England in the final after penalties.
Next year the European Championship will be held in Germany. The ten host cities are Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Dortmund, Leipzig, Gelsenkirchen, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. Ticket sales for this European Championship started on Tuesday.
