Peter Navarro, the economic advisor to former US President Donald Trump, was charged Friday with obstructing the congressional investigation into the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. We don’t want to turn over the required documents.
The head of the investigative committee said the former Trump adviser “did not hide his role in efforts to reverse the results of the 2020 elections, but rather announced the president’s support for these plans.” January 6 events, Democrat Bernie Sanders.
Navarro has been detained and faces a prison sentence of 30 days to a year and a fine of up to 100,000 euros for each accused offense. He argues that the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry has the power to subpoena him.
Earlier, Steve Bannon, one of the key strategists in the Trump administration, refused to testify before the committee. He will also have to answer to the judge.
Hundreds of witnesses have already been heard in the commission. She hopes to complete her work before the midterm elections in November. Because there are concerns that the Democratic-controlled committee will be dissolved if the Republicans win that election.
Beginning next week, the commission of inquiry is organizing public hearings.
