FC Utrecht draws attention to the importance of mental health

‘Unbox Yourself and Unbox Someone Else’ focuses on mental complaints among young people and what they can do about it. It is important to talk to peers or loved ones if things are not going well. It is part of life and they are not alone in this. The campaign also focuses on the youth environment, with a focus on parents, teachers, (football) coaches and friends.

FC Utrecht draws attention to their ‘Unbox Yourself and Unbox Someone Else’ program during their home match with RKC Waalwijk. In the run-up to the Eredivisie match at Galgenwaard Stadium, boxes containing written words representing various mental complaints could be seen in various places, both online and during match formation on the field.

“Stress, anxiety, performance pressure, sadness. These are things that are part of life, but young people should experience them as little as possible. And if so, there should be people in their immediate environment who can help.” “We hope to be able to address the issue with the municipality of Utrecht and ultimately make a difference for these young people,” says General Manager Thijs van Es from FC Utrecht.

To promote concrete action, the Utrecht Club and the Municipality of Utrecht offer a program in cooperation with the Play Mental Foundation, where young people are invited to talk openly about mental health. Monthly sessions are organized in schools or sports clubs where young people can discuss this topic (crossing the line). The first session will be held on October 10, Mental Health Day, at Galgenwaard Stadium with a large group of ROC students.
