Google Meet offers an “on-the-go” mode for meetings on the go

Want to have a quick meeting on the go? This is now possible with the new On-The-Go mode in Google Meet, a simplified interface for the video conferencing app.

Google is up Wednesday It has begun rolling out On-the-Go, a new mode that should now also be available in the Meet mobile app. As the name suggests, it was developed for meetings on the go, for example while walking or occasionally calling from the car. If you receive a (video) call via the mobile app, a pop-up window will appear asking if you want to use it on the go.

The mode is a simplified version of the Google Meet interface. Video is automatically disabled, either by you or by your conversation partners. If someone shares slides from a presentation, you’ll see them. Moreover, Google Meet only shows you buttons to mute yourself, raise your hand, adjust the call volume, and end the call. It doesn’t have to be anything more than that.

Google Meet on the Go is available to both paid Workspace users and users with a free personal account. The mode can be a useful addition for those who travel a lot on the road. If you’re calling mainly from home or the office, you’ll benefit from the higher 1080p picture quality that has been available for several months.
