Here we have another film about simple, but well-intentioned people, the kind that could only be made in the UK. Based on the novel of the same name by Rachel Joyce. The Unexpected Pilgrimage by Harold Fry. Thursday 19 October at 8:15pm Harold and his wife Maureen live simply somewhere in a village in the south of England. When Harold heard that Queenie, a former classmate, had been admitted to a nursing home, he wrote her a letter. But when he stood before the post-box he changed his mind and went on foot to Berwick-upon-Tweed, the northernmost town in the country. This means walking about 750 kilometers. It doesn’t bother him that he didn’t prepare, he will achieve his goal and “save” Queenie. Of course he experiences all kinds of things and meets fellow humans who all have something to say. The ending is beautiful and Harold Fry’s unlikely pilgrimage makes you look at life and the world in a different way. Seeing the beauty in the little things, a miracle, so to speak. United Kingdom 2023. Directed by: Hettie Macdonald. Duration: 108′. With: Jim Broadbent, Penelope Wilton, Nina Singh and others presenting with an intermission. Expected: Thursday, October 26, Un métier sérieux (Night) at 8.15 pm. Show address: Utopiazaal Markland, Pagnevaartweg 7, 4731 AA Oudenbosch. www.filmtheaterfanfare.nl
