In Anderlecht, the Grondels building opens in the new residential area of CityGate. The building consists of 35 supported homes and a health center. The building was inaugurated on Tuesday in the presence of Brussels Prime Minister Rudi Vervoort (PS) and Brussels Minister of Social Work and Health Alain Maron (Ecolo).
Grondels is part of citydev.brussels’ CityGate programme, which will radically transform the Biestebroek district over 130,000 square metres.
New residential properties consist of social homes, owner-occupied homes, as well as economic activities. The area should become the hub between the Kuregem district, the southern station, and future projects along the canal.
The Grondels building has a horseshoe shape, ensuring that the residents within the building have the necessary privacy and are not impeded by the nearby railways. Residents can also use eight greenhouses and green spaces on the roof.
care center
The project also includes the first dual-community integrated healthcare center for which Medikuregem Health Center will provide care. The care center must evolve into a meeting place where primary care providers, social service providers and local residents work together.
The project is the result of a collaboration between citydev.brussels and Solidarimmo directors, Doctors of the World Belgium. The health center is funded with support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF): it received €3 million under the 2014-2020 programme.
