Information leaked about Afghans seeking to be transferred to Britain | Abroad

A British Ministry of Defense official has been suspended after data from Afghans they want to be transferred to the UK was leaked. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace apologized to the House of Commons on Tuesday, saying he had “immediately ordered an investigation into the matter”.

In an email to more than 250 eligible BRAFSA residents living in Afghanistan, recipients were not in the blind carbon copy, but their email address was visible to all recipients. Wallace said recipients were advised to delete their email address and create a new one.

Some people whose data was leaked are hiding from the Taliban after Islamist militants took power in Afghanistan last month.

The British Defense Secretary promised to help those affected in the House of Commons. “At the moment, Deputy Secretary of Defense James Hebei is in the region talking to neighboring countries to see what more we can do,” Wallance said. “I assure you that we will continue to move people to the UK, no matter how many and how long it takes.”
