Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton is eighth on Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes. Hamilton earned less than half of what the highest profit was allowed to credit in his bank account.

Every year Forbes comes up with different lists, including lists of the highest paid athletes around the world. The main thing was to pay attention to whether the coronavirus pandemic would have any impact on these top ten.

That doesn’t seem to be the case, because the top 10 highest-earning athletes in 2020 together earned at least 28 percent more than they did in 2019. The absolute biggest winner was MMA star Conor McGregor. Footballers Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo completed the podium together, the latter having to make way for Messi financially.

Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton has earned $82 million in his salary, prize money and off-track earnings. This makes him the highest paid F1 driver again.

Next year, the key question will be whether Hamilton can still make the top 10 in Forbes. At the beginning of this year, Hamilton signed a new one-year contract with Mercedes and also had to cut his salary.

Daimler, the parent company that tops Mercedes, had directed this as it carried out a sweeping reorganization and layoffs due to, among other things, the coronavirus pandemic. In the midst of this, giving Hamilton the same salary or even a salary increase was not the right signal for all employees, according to Ola Källenius.
