Max from Silverstone: ‘Far from Boring’

Max Verstappen arrived in the United Kingdom a few days after his dominant victory at the Red Bull Ring, where he scored maximum points. On Wednesday he attended the annual Clay Day, in which clay pigeon shooting is used to support Wings for Life.

Max can be seen at Silverstone on Thursday afternoon, where he looked ahead and said: “Silverstone is an important race for us and we want to come here. We’re trying to have a good race here and win it. I won here at Silverstone in 2020. Like last year sometimes you have a bit of bad luck. There will be, but we know our car is good and competitive this year, so I’m looking forward to the weekend and hopefully we can end it with a good result.

Oracle Red Bull Racing seems to have made fewer major updates to the car than some competing teams. How do you see it yourself? Max: “We’ve had a great start to the season and every race we’re understanding our car a little bit better, what we want and what we need from it. We’re not stopping at that point. Other teams are talking a lot about updates and upgrades, but we’re taking the RB19 “We’re building because it definitely needs to improve. I think it’s a good sign that we’ve had fewer major updates than some of our competitors and still have a good lead. It varies from round to round, but our core set is strong. It’s up to us to capitalize on that potential.”

Are permanent rounds better suited for the RB19? “I think so,” says Max. “On tar roads with street circuits or potholes, our car does not perform well. I think that’s why Monaco’s margin was slightly lower. Things didn’t go well in Montreal either. We know there are a few more street rounds coming up and they will be very difficult for us.

Nevertheless, Max is coming off a dominant season with Red Bull. It certainly doesn’t bore him. “Over the years we’ve been close or thought next year would be our year and it didn’t happen for various reasons. Now we’re where we’re supposed to be and I’m enjoying the moment and what we’re achieving as a team. People sometimes ask me if it’s boring, but it is. No. This is what we have been working on with our team all these years. Everyone is very motivated to get such a position and we are enjoying it. Of course we know that other teams are working hard to catch us. We know that. But we are working as hard as possible to stay in the lead. I am far from bored. I see
