Germans are due to vote on Sunday to choose a new parliament. This includes the Federal Chancellor. On Saturday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for a vote for the “future” of Germany. “It is about your future, the future of your children and the future of their parents. You only have a chance every four years to decide at the federal level who should shape that future for you in Berlin,” Merkel said alongside Laschet.

The election is expected to be an exciting duel between Social Democrat Olaf Schulz, who leads in the opinion polls, and his right-wing challenger Laschet.
