Nintendo would like to produce standard versions of the Switch

Nintendo wants to significantly increase production of the Nintendo Switch this fiscal year, among other things to launch an improved model.

It will be thirty million copies this fiscal year. This claims the Japanese Nikki, Which are generally familiar with the Japanese company’s internal plans. The fiscal year began on May 1 and will end on March 31, 2022.

Nintendo has never produced so many copies of the Switch in a single year – so it appears the company is expecting the console demand to continue to increase this year. The increase in production will be partly driven by a possible upcoming improved switch model. This has been rumored for some time, but Nintendo hasn’t confirmed the existence of this more powerful version of the Switch yet.

Nikkei stated that the increase in production is dependent on manufacturers’ capabilities in relation to the current semiconductor shortage. This means – combined with the products’ popularity – that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S have been tough to come by since they launched at the end of last year.

Nintendo itself does not confirm or deny the Nikkei claim. “There is nothing we can say about the improved production numbers and models.” Next Thursday, Nintendo will release the numbers for the past fiscal year. By the end of 2020, nearly eighty million copies of Switch had been sold worldwide.
