Omroep Flevoland – News – What is that blue ‘box’ near the airport?

A gigantic blue commercial building is currently rising in the empty plain of the business park next to Lelystad Airport. Question: What is it? Investigations at Lelystad Airport Business Park (LAB), which is responsible for land sales in the business park, tell us that it will be a logistics hub.

The building is being developed by real estate firm GLP, which was originally established in the United Kingdom and is now headquartered in Singapore. GLP operates in the leasing and exploitation of logistics and industrial real estate worldwide.

The shopping complex on Charles Lindberglaan in Lelystad covers an area of 37,000 m2. The real estate company chose to settle in Lelystad due to its central location within the Netherlands and good accessibility of the site. According to the LAB spokesperson, the GLP location has nothing to do with whether or not Lelystad Airport will open. “These types of companies don’t gamble and make an informed choice to locate here. They don’t depend on the airport itself.”

The striking color, which is blue to white from the ground up, was not chosen specifically for Flevoland. A similar design can be found in many GLP buildings around the world. A second one is being built next to the first hall. It is not yet known which company or companies will occupy the space.
