Record number of migrants crossed into the UK on Wednesday | abroad

More than 10,000 migrants have already taken the dangerous illegal route across the Channel to the UK this year. This is according to data from the British news agency PA. Statistics show that last Wednesday a record number of migrants arrived on the British coast at Dover in this way.

Britain’s Home Office said a record 482 migrants crossed the border from France on Wednesday in small boats. It is a new daily record, at a time when Parliament is considering a bill to tighten Britain’s asylum system. The previous daily record this year was 430, which was set at the end of last month.

The French and British Interior Ministers Gerald Darmanin and Priti Patel signed an agreement late last month to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the fight against illegal immigration. For example, France, with support from the United Kingdom, will allocate additional resources to combating illegal immigration, with additional patrols on the north coast between Boulogne and Dunkirk and towards the northwest around Dieppe.

Additional surveillance technology will also be introduced on the French side to prevent crossing attempts, including airborne surveillance. Finally, investments will be made in infrastructure to increase safety. France doubled last year the number of customers on the beaches with the support of London.
