Sturgeon vows former Scottish prime minister to co-operate with investigation after husband’s arrest | outside

Former Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon has promised her “full co-operation” following the arrest of her husband, Peter Morell. The latter was arrested on Wednesday in an investigation into the finances of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Muriel was bureau chief of the Scottish National Party from 1999 until mid-March. Discredited, he resigned when it became apparent that the party leadership had concealed that party membership had fallen precipitously.

On Wednesday, he was arrested by police in an investigation into the SNP’s finances. About 600,000 pounds sterling (about 680,000 euros) in donations for the organization of the second independence referendum would not have been used for this purpose. On Wednesday night, Morrell was released without charge.

‘The biggest and most challenging crisis’

Al-Hafsh made her first public statement on Saturday since her husband’s arrest. She did so in front of their home in Glasgow, where investigators searched for more than a day. A search was also carried out at the SNP’s headquarters.

“The last few days have obviously been difficult, and at times very exciting,” said the former prime minister. She indicated that she could not comment on the investigation into the party’s finances “as far as I would like to say something”. Sturgeon said he was not questioned by investigators. “But I will fully cooperate with the police if you ask,” she said.

SNP chairman Mike Russell said in an interview with The Herald on Saturday that this was the “biggest and most challenging crisis” his party had ever faced. He promised a full-scale investigation.
