Taylor Swift is the fastest selling album of 2023 in the UK – Wel.nl

Taylor Swift has set a record in the UK with her album 1989 (Taylor’s Version), which was released last week. According to BBC, the album has been sold over 184,000 times and is the only record to go gold in a single week. The album is therefore the fastest selling record of the year.

The remake of her 2014 album 1989 debuted at No. 1 on the British charts on Friday. It is her eleventh No. 1. The American thus approaches the record for a female artist who has most often reached No. 1 in the British Albums Chart. This is now in the name of Madonna, who succeeded her twelve times.

Swift (33 years old) also came in first place on the albums chart in the Netherlands. The singer tops the Hot 100 albums chart for the sixth time.

This is the fourth time that Swift has re-released an album. Swift is recording her first six albums for the second time because her former manager bought the rights to the recordings a few years ago. By releasing albums as Taylor Editions, the singer herself is the full owner of her songs, and in addition to royalties from the rights as a writer and performer, she also receives those from the recordings. This means she can decide for herself whether songs will end up in films or commercials, for example.
