Four years ago, twelve siblings were found chained, thirsty and neglected in a small town in the US state of California. The twelve were found by the police after the thirteenth victim, a 17-year-old girl, managed to escape and contact the police. It eventually turns out that the children’s parents, David and Louise Turpin, have been holding their children for years. Children were starved and systematically beaten. Some were also chained to their beds. Sometimes for weeks.
David and Louise were charged with a full range of charges, but initially pleaded not guilty. They later pleaded guilty. Both were sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
